Saving $$$ with Homemade Laundry Soap!

Ingredients for laundry soap

I bought the Borax and Zote at Albertsons.

Borax $4 and change (lost the reciept) (I also found the Borax later at Walmart for MUCH cheaper)

Zote was $.99 each

Washing Soda and Baking Soda from Walmart.  I also bought a few bars of Fels Naptha at Walmart also.

Washing Soda $3.24

Baking Soda $2.12

Fels Naptha $.97 each

The soap bars get shredded like cheese then added to the other ingredients.  I used one full bar of Zote and two bars of Fels Naptha.

The finished product!

I mixed the whole batch together in a black garbage bag inside of a 5 gallon bucket.  I will refill my jar from the bucket as needed.  I have a small coffee scoop that I will use for measuring.  It holds about 2 tablespoons.  I’m not sure how long it will last but I suspect it will be several months before I will need to make more!!

For less than $12.50 we have enough laundry soap to last….who knows how long?!?!?!?!  Awesome!

    • It smells fresh and clean. I suppose drops of essential oils could be added for more fragrance. I know that is an option for the homemade liquid soaps as well.

We put 30 drops of orange essential oil in ours and it’s 5 gallons of the liquid kind. Just enough scent to smell it and not be overwhelmed….I read you can do that with the dry stuff too…
