Our last baby just turned 4!!
Mason has never had a real birthday party with friends and family. This year he has his little friends from soccer and I wanted him to have a big, super fun party. I came up with the idea of doing a campout theme. I turned to my favorite new website for all things creative…Pinterest. I couldn’t have done it without some wonderful pins I found!
I made Mason a cute little shirt with some iron on letters that I found on clearance 🙂
These cupcakes were delicious and so pretty!
Our guests all said they had a great time! I am so glad we were able to throw Mason such a fun filled birthday party.
Time to start planning Aydens!!!!
Its been months!! I’ve dropped the ball on keeping up with my blog, its true.
We are well into the new year and going strong! Dominic changed jobs and is no longer working back office. He is a flight chief working on a days flight. That makes for early mornings and short evenings. Its been tough getting used to the new schedule. He no longer has every weekend off which is kind of a bummer. We’re making it work though like always.
We are getting geared up for Spring. Mason has started his second season of Soccer and T-Ball will begin in the next week or so. Ayden will be testing for his blue belt next week and Christian is doing well with his advancements in Boy Scouts. We are so proud of our boys!
We are planning to start our Spring garden very soon. We are excited to plant some new things this year. Lets hope it works out well!
It was a busy weekend around town! Lots going on with Falls Fest and the Air Show. Dominic had to work both days of the air show as usual but this year he was in civilian clothes which meant that we could walk around with him while he secretly investigated people 😉 First we went to Mason’s soccer practice where they lost their first game. The kids did great but there was a little girl on the other team that was super quick and knew the game well! It was the first game where we had some really good competition which was great. After soccer we headed to base where we got backstage pass access. Okay, not technically but when you know the right people it sure makes a difference. Dominic told us to park in his office parking lot and he would meet us there. He picked us up in his truck, we drove past the huge row of cars waiting for parking and we were able to park right by a second entrance and walk right in. Love my Investigator Macias!
The air show was great and the boys loved it. I had never taken them before because its too much work. Dominic always has to work the air shows and taking all the boys alone would be exhausting! Mason was so excited every time the formation of planes went by. He screamed and shouted “WHOA!” It was great! We got to walk onto a C-17 Cargo plane too.
That was pretty awesome. When we walked my a missile loader Ayden thought it was pretty cool. He asked if he could sit in it and they let him! He thought that was pretty cool. Dominic also got to show the boys the kind of plane that he flew on while he was deployed.
We ran into our friends John and Laurie at the air show too. Its always great to see them! They are so good to us and the boys 🙂 They even bought the boys some frozen lemonade!! So sweet! When it was time to go we all piled into Dominic’s truck and he took us back to our cars so we could get out of there before the rush of traffic leaving base started.
It was a busy but fun weekend 🙂
Its SOCCER TIME!!! Last Saturday was Mason’s first game. He was super excited and couldn’t wait to play! His team won 9-3. Mason didn’t score any goals at the first game but this weekend at the second game he scored four! All the boys on his team are hard-core soccer players…well except for one 😉 These boys have an amazing concept of the game. They get it. The two teams that they’ve played so far have been what we expected to see from our boys. Everything from crying, not wanting to play to standing around. We’ve only had a couple of incidents with boys not wanting to play and crying from little injuries.
Mason came out of the 4th quarter with a head injury…okay, not really a head injury but he did slip on the ball and went backwards and slammed his head on the ground. It scared him and he started to cry and didn’t want to finish the quarter. They still won that game and played against a team that didn’t look like they had ever practiced. I felt bad for them because our boys kept scoring and scoring and scoring. Those boys didn’t seem like they had a clue about anything and many of their parents were on the field with them. As the opposing team we cheered them on and I hope they weren’t discouraged by the game.
The Toadies won 13-2 this week. Go Toadies!
Here are some pictures from the first game.
It was a beautiful three day weekend…all around. We got some sort of Heavenly sent cold front this weekend. It was fabulous! We have enjoyed every second of it. We haven’t even needed to run the A/C in three days. This morning was so crisp and cool that we practically needed light jackets!
Dominic and I were able to spend a little bit of time together on a date Friday night. We had a new babysitter come over to stay with the boys. The new babysitter is a girl that we know from scouting. She is a Venture Scout and her dad is the Scout Master. The boys said they had a good time with her. Dominic and I went to dinner and a movie. There isn’t much else to do here but we enjoyed the time together.
On Saturday we ran some errands. Dominic wanted to get some overalls…not sure why…but he was so happy when we found them!
Dominic ended up having a quick meeting at work on Sunday then we took the dogs (and boys) for a walk. After that we went fishing. It was such a beautiful day! The fish are thick in the cattle tank where we fish at because the water is so low. We each caught several fish. It was a great evening. We had so much fun that we decided to go fishing again the next night! Here are some pictures.
Baking is certainly a passion of mine. I’m not sure where it came from exactly but I absolutely love trying new recipes. I love that I can create in the kitchen and that people get happy about the things that I make. When we lived in Iceland I had decided that I wanted to try to make cheesecake from scratch…you know, not the Jello kind out of the box?!?! I had remembered making a cheesecake with my mom once but I remember thinking how long it seemed to take. Once I found a recipe and made it myself I was in complete shock at how simple it was. I would never buy a cheesecake in a box again! From about that point on I have loved baking. I love throwing together a batch of cookies, baking big three layer cakes and trying new frostings!
I was inspired early in the week to make a batch of homemade cinnamon rolls. They turned out pretty good although they weren’t gooey in the middle 😦 The problem that we have is that I love sweets (very bad thing), Dominic isn’t real big on sweets, and the boys all think they like sweets until they get two bites into something. Christian is a milkshake kinda kid, Ayden likes cookies and Mason likes candy. I’ve always liked sending my homemade goodies to work with Dominic to share. His co-workers have raved about everything I have sent over the years which feels good. This time I had asked Dominic to take the pan of cinnamon rolls to work and he did NOT want to. It had nothing to do with the rolls and everything to do with work issues. I get it but I would much rather other people eat them so they won’t get thrown away here at home because no one wanted them. In the end he did take them to work and came home with a very empty pan. He was bitter about it though and didn’t tell me if people liked them (lol).
This week on Pinterest I found a recipe for Salted Caramel Frosting! OMG! Can you imagine? I had never made salted caramel before but I do know how to make candies fairly well so I figured ‘how hard can it be’? Not hard at all, just a bit time consuming. I made chocolate cupcakes from scratch and topped them with this frosting. I’m not sure if there is a better combination! These cupcakes are to die for! I had to get rid of them! LOL I was shocked when Dominic ate two of them! The rest I was able to pawn off to a friend since I wouldn’t dare ask Dominic to take another homemade goody to work in the same week as the cinnamon rolls…lol.
I had so much fun this week trying new recipes!
I bought the Borax and Zote at Albertsons.
Borax $4 and change (lost the reciept) (I also found the Borax later at Walmart for MUCH cheaper)
Zote was $.99 each
Washing Soda and Baking Soda from Walmart. I also bought a few bars of Fels Naptha at Walmart also.
Washing Soda $3.24
Baking Soda $2.12
Fels Naptha $.97 each
The soap bars get shredded like cheese then added to the other ingredients. I used one full bar of Zote and two bars of Fels Naptha.
I mixed the whole batch together in a black garbage bag inside of a 5 gallon bucket. I will refill my jar from the bucket as needed. I have a small coffee scoop that I will use for measuring. It holds about 2 tablespoons. I’m not sure how long it will last but I suspect it will be several months before I will need to make more!!
For less than $12.50 we have enough laundry soap to last….who knows how long?!?!?!?! Awesome!
